White Kitchens

kwhitethisoldhouse1The things I love about this kitchen:

Counter to ceiling subway tiles, it’s all about the tile in this kitchen.  Worth every penny this detail suggests quality and no expense spared.  The look is so pre-war, vintage but the look is updated with the stainless farmers sink and appliances.

Black window trim.  The sharp contrast of the black paint on the eight over eight double hung windows really makes them pop and gives a modern twist to the traditional styling of the kitchen.  The open shelves are a nice balance to the dark windows ( and they don’t hide the fab tile ).

Inset cabinet doors.  Doors that overlap the cabinet face are called over-lay doors, door that practically touch are called full over-lay.    The inset style shown above is the most difficult to make because it takes precision and there is little room for error. The look however is furniture quality cabinets that exude craftmenship.

Vintage/modern hardware.  The mix of traditional looking knobs and  modern pulls reinforces the existing ying-yang styling of old and new mixed together.  This kitchen is the best of both, blended into an updated version of a classic kitchen.
