Winter isn’t quite here but it’s snowing on WordPress so I thought I’d pass this along.  Art, in a fleeting medium, winters paint… SNOW, a gift from nature.  Enjoy!

One Man Walks All Day to Create These Spectacular Snow PatternsAlong the frozen lakes of Savoie, France, artist Simon Beck spends days plodding through the snow in raquettes (snowshoes), creating these sensational patterns of snow art.

Working up to 9 hours a day, each snow quilt is the size of three soccer fields!  How long these magnificent geometric forms survive is completely dependent on the weather.  Beck redesigns the patterns as new snow falls.  Sometimes he is unable to finish a piece due to overnight accumulations.

“The main reason for making them was because I can no longer run properly due to problems with my feet, so plodding about on level snow is the least painful way of getting exercise. Gradually the reason has become photographing them, and I am considering buying a better camera”. – Simon Beck

These are beautiful! And how wonderful for him to be able to get exercise, too.
