This picture sums up everything that is hot and cutting edge in design right now. Recycled industrial parts, found objects, utilitarian furniture intended as factory or machine shop staples have become chic and highly desirable. We saw the trend gain momentum with cage lights typically used by construction crews, plumbers and electricians repurposed into pendant lights for kitchens, hallways and other unexpected residential uses. It’s the masculine and hard-edged version of shabby chic really… That look was based on feminine and romantic ideas, the trend now is recycled antique machine age pieces with grit and patina, the masculine and tough. It mixes well with the now mainstream rough horizontal board walls and of course it doesn’t get much “greener”.
