The Perfect Banqette

October 27, 2010

I have files on every conceivable household furnishings, lighting, furniture, case-goods, tile, and yes even images of my most favorite banquette’s.  I love this one for its great shape.  A soft spot to read in by day and a dining alcove by night this circular window seat was really put together well.  I think I may have designed the cushion cut into the window sill area allowing for a deeper cushion, and perhaps napping, but you can’t deny this seat with a view sure is pretty.  Did you notice the trendy trellis patterned pillow?  If/when you are ever considering adding anything built-in to your home, a book-case, a window seat, cabinets be sure to really pay attention to how they relate to the architecture of your space.  Built-ins should integrate well into their surroundings and look as if they have always been there.  Mouldings and trim don’t have to match, but they should be complimentary and style should meet the existing one unless you are going for a ying/yang old/new modern/rustic high contrast effect… but that’s a different blog.  Consider the outside of your home or apartment too.  Trust me, you don’t want to walk into a Tudor house and see white high gloss kitchen cabinets, nor would you want dark stained wood cabinets with raised panels and ornate hardware in a modern box.
