Not My Garden

This is not my garden, but I’d take it! The painting of my own homes exterior is finally complete and we are in the planning stages of what I hope will be an all at once early fall installation. I like matching the front yard to the house stylistically so the formal Georgian Colonial Revival details call for a more formal landscape. We removed 1950′s evergreens that had grown into large unmanageable shrubs and lilac, hydrangea, and many, many boxwood will take their place.
Love the idea of an all white garden… Bulbs of all types could bloom from behind the boxwood and have the structure of the hydrangea behind them. In a nut shell, formal seems to mean neat tidy rows of plantings and larger plantings of the same type of material vs random planting and smatterings of different species. Sculpted hedges and trained plants…
