Wabi House – Hidden Fortress
December 15, 2011
Found on the Dwell website, this cool Japanese inspired house was cool to not re-post here on Billblog. Protected by an overhang, and floating above ground level, this tertiary space is known in traditional homes as the “engawa.” To sustain a unified look throughout, the floor and ceiling are clad in ipe wood.
The entrance to the living room includes a seating area where guests can remove their shoes. I love the walkway across the koi pond and the minimal look of the house and garden. The black is a striking finish on the horizontal boards of the house that seems to work beautifully.
At the end of the house, the soaking tub gets almost daily use. The bath and shower fixtures are by Dornbracht. The bathroom follows the design aesthetic and is kept minimal. The pebbles give an indoor/outdoor feel as does the shower decking. LOVE.
